What is the rule for decimal places when drawing up an injection?
Syringes with a capacity greater than 1ml calculate answers to 1 decimal place.
Syringes with a capacity less than 1ml calculate answers to 2 decimal places.
What are subcutaneous injections used for administering?
Subcutaneous injections are used for administering insulin, heparin or narcotic analgesia.
What are the needle lengths, gauge, syringe size and volume for subcuts?
Needle length - 1-2.5cm
Needle gauge - 25-27 gauge
Syringe size- 100 units or 1ml
Volume- 1.5mL maximum
List the injection sites for subcuts?
Arms, thighs and stomach
Why should we rotate injection sites?
repeated injections lead to scarring and hardening of fatty tissue.
List the sites for intramuscular injections?
Ventrogluteal-
Deltoid- arm-
Dorsogluteal- butt
Vastus Lateralis- thigh
