Why did Wolsey struggle with the annulment?

A

First he found eveidance in the bible, but failed from dispensation not ‘properly married’. However this would embarace the pope. Also it was not a clear answer.

-the method failed from campegios delaying tactics suggesting it was all done by the pope.

  • this made England look weak. Which angers the king, but Wolsey could not go against the pope

Why was the amicable grant a failure?

A

It was an unparliamentary tax to raise money on war with france. Priest pay one third of income, every on else on sixth
Lead to revolts of 10,000 men in Suffolk saying they had no money
- this was the first significant rebellion of HenryVIII reign
- wolsey was humiliated
-HenryVIII began to doubt In the ability Alf his chief minister.

A
  • in (1528) france an England decelerad war on the Italian penesuala under Charles v rule. No English troops went, which increased the Spain and france alliance

What was The Boleyn faction importance?

A

As HenryVIII relationship with Anne Boleyn grew stronger. A stronger power in the court started developing which Wolsey could not stop.
Anne persuaded HenryVIII that wolsye favoured Catherine. That he was deliberately distrusting the divorce. This was due to Anne Boleyn wanting power

Wolsey was accused of praemunire in 1530. Executing his power
