What is WPW syndrome?
A
There is an accessory pathway for conduction so the impulse can travel to the AVN but also to the ventricle quicker

What does WPW syndrome look like on an ECG?
A
Short PR interval, delta waves

What does a delta wave look like?
A
Wide QRS complex that begins slurred

What can cause WPW syndrome?
A
Congenital, hypokalaemia, hypocalcaemia, drugs like amiodarone or tricyclic antidepressants, bradycardia, acute MI, diabetes

How does WPW syndrome present?
A
Palpitations, severe dizziness, dyspnoea, syncope

How do you manage WPW syndrome?
A
Vagal manoeuvre, IV adenosine, catheter ablation of pathway

What is a vagal manoeuvre?
A
Breath holding, carotid massage, Valsalva manoeuvre
