What is the Hamlin et al (2007) helping theory about?

A

Researchers showed 10-month-old infants videos of shapes helping each other or hindering each other. The infants perceived the shapes as animated beings with goals. After watching, when given the choice of toys shaped like the helpful or hindering shapes, even 6-month-olds preferred the helpful shape

Q

What is the Warneken and Tomasello (2006) helping theory about?

A

Study with 18-month-olds to understand when children start engaging in helping behavior. Experimenter drops something and pretends they can’t pick it up, creating a physical obstacle. In most cases, when the infant understands the goal, they willingly help the experimenter. This shows that even at 18 months, children readily engage in intentional helping actions.

Q

What is the Smith, Blake and Harris sharing theory about?

A

Children aged 3-8 understand sharing norms, agreeing that sharing half of their four stickers is fair. However, when asked to apply these norms, younger children tend to share less evenly, with a more even split emerging around ages 7-8. Sharing norms are understood early, but behavior aligns with those norms later on.
