WK15-16 Foot Muscles Flashcards
OIIA: Abductor Hallucis
O: medial tubercle of tuberosity on calcaneus; flexor retinaculum; plantar aponeurosis
I: medial side of base of proximal phalanx of 1st digit
I: medial plantar nerve
A: abducts and flexes first digit at MTP and IP joints
OIIA: Flexor Digitorum Brevis
O: medial tubercle of tuberosity of calcaneus; plantar aponeurosis; intermuscular septa
I: both sides of middle phalanges of lateral four digits
I: medial plantar nerve
A: flexes lateral four digits at MTP and IP joints
OIIA: Abductor Digiti Minimi
O: medial and lateral tubercles of tuberosity of calcaneus; plantar aponeurosis; intermuscular septa
I: lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
I: lateral plantar nerve
A: abducts and flexes little toe at MTP and IP joints
OIIA: Quadratus Plantae
O: medial surface of lateral margin of plantar surface of calcaneus
I: posterolateral margin of tendon of flexor digitorum longus
I: lateral plantar nerve
A: assists flexor digitorum longus in flexing lateral four digits at MTP and IP joints
OIIA: Lumbricals
O: tendons of flexor digitorum longus
I: medial aspect of expansion over lateral four digits
I: medial one: medial plantar nerve
lateral three: lateral plantar nerve
A: flex proximal IP joint (MTP); extend middle and distal IP joints of lateral four digits
OIIA: Flexor Hallucis Brevis
O: plantar surfaces of cuboid and lateral cuneiforms
I: both sides of base of proximal phalanx of 1st digit
I: medial plantar nerve
A: flexes PIP joint of 1st digit
OIIA: Adductor Hallucis
O: obl. head: bases of metatarsals 2-4
transverse head: plantar ligaments of MTP joints
I: tendons of both heads attach to lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of first digit
I: deep branch of lateral plantar nerve
A: traditionally said to adduct first digit; assists in maintaining transverse arch of foot by pulling metatarsals medially
OIIA: Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis
O: base of 5th metatarsal
I: base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
I: superficial branch of lateral plantar nerve
A: flexes PIP; assisting with flexion of digit
OIIA: Plantar Interossei
O: plantar aspect of medial sides of shafts of metatarsals 3-5
I: medial sides of bases of phalanges of 3-5th digits
I: lateral plantar nerve
A: adduct and flex digits 3-5 at MTP joint
OIIA: Dorsal Interossei
O: adjacent sides of shafts of metatarsals 1-5
I: 1st: medial side of proximal phalanx of 2nd digit
2nd-4th: lateral sides of 2nd -4th digits
I: lateral plantar nerve
A: abduct and flex digits 2-4 at MTP joints
OIIA: Extensor Digitorum Brevis
O: calcaneus; interosseus talocalcaneal ligament; stem of infeior extensor retinaculum
I : long extensor tendons of three intermediate digits
I: deep fibular nerve
A: aids the EDL in extending three intermediate toes at the MTP and IP joints
OIIA: Extensor Hallucis Brevis
O: calcaneus; interosseus talocalcaneal ligament; stem of infeior extensor retinaculum
I: dorsal aspect of base of proximal phalanx of great toe
I: deep fibular nerve
A: aids the EHL in extending great toe at the MTP joint
