What are verb groups?
doings and happenings in the world
What are the 5 kinds of verbs?
action= what we do.
sensing= What we feel, think, perceive. (thought, wish,know) Perceiving verbs= felt, heard, smell, listened.
saying= what we say.
relating= how we link info. (is, refers to, has,represents)
existing= How we identify things that simply ‘exist’.
What is a noun?
the name of a person, place, thing, or idea
How to identify nouns
- add ‘my’ or ‘the’ before the noun.
- Can be pluralised
What are noun groups?
Noun group: Represents the participants (who/what is taking part) and additional information about the participant.
3 parts of a noun group?
Pre modifier: Words that come right before the core noun.
Noun.
Any post modifiers: words that come right after the noun.
Noun groups consist of pre modifiers. What are they?
- a pointer= Which?
- Quantifier= how many?
- Describer= What like?
- Classifier= what type?
Noun group post modifiers are?
- Thing= who/what.
- Qualifier= more info?
What are pre positional phrases?
Prepositional phrase
• e.g. the cats on the roof, the birds in the sky
These phrases consist of a preposition (e.g. on, in, at, to, from,
with) followed by a noun group.
