A

accused could be tried in ordinary courts instead of church courts.

economic laws-tesions between people in small communities increased.

richer people became more suspicous of the poor.

Influence: After henry v111 witchcraft became treason, James 1 was an enthusiastic witch hunter.

civil war created a climate of fear in which many beleived in superstsitous beliefs.

religion- protestants and puritans beleived that they needed to ‘cleanse’ society ( seeking out witches)

Fraud- Mathew hopkins carried out witch hunts in eats anglia, leading to 112 innocent deaths.

stereotype- 90% of women , wise women who helped the poor who couldnt aford to see doctors
were disliked by men in villages
