Windshear Flashcards
What are the unacceptable flight path deviations? (5 +3)
\+/- 15kts \+/- 500fpm \+/- 5˚pitch \+/- 1 dot ILS G/S Unusual power settings
- Heading variations of > 10˚
- Ground Speed variations
- Wind indication variations on the ND
What system provides the Predictive Windshear?
When is it active?
How is it prioritised?
- The Weather Radar provides the PWS.
- Active when <1500ft. Inhibited on t/o 100kts - 50R, on landing <50R.
- Prioritised over TCAS and GPWS but overridden by FAC W/S and Stall warnings.
What provides the W/S Detection and Warnings?
When is it active?
What is the warning?
- W/S detection and warnings are provided by the FACs.
- Active 3s after t/o and <1300R to 50R with at least CONF 1 selected.
- WINDSHEAR on both PFD’s for 15s and aural WINDSHEAR x3
What are the “Tools for Escape”?
- ALPHA FLOOR; TOGA automatically selected > TOGA LK as AoA decreases > disconnect A/THR top disconnect TOGA LK
- SRS; minimises height loss
- High AoA protection; allows selection of full back stick for max lift and minimises drag by retracting flaps.
Following TOGA selection what pitch should be flown?
- If FDs available; SRS commands
- If no FDs; 17.5˚
When can predictive W/S warnings be ignored?
- no other signs of possible windshear AND reactive W/S system operational.
Prior to take-off what precautions should you take? (5)
- Delay takeoff
- Evaluate conditions
- Use most favourable runway
- Asses with Wx radar
- Use TOGA
What are the Predictive W/S alerts?
- MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY and WINDSHEAR AHEAD
Prior to V1 what are the correct actions for;
- “Windshear Ahead”
- “Monitor Radar Display”?
- STOP
- STOP or CONTINUE
After V1 what are the correct actions for;
- “Windshear Ahead”
- “Monitor Radar Display”?
- Set TOGA
- Set TOGA, normal rotation
Are configuration changes allowed?
Yes, providing you don’t enter windshear.
If there is suspected windshear or a predictive windshear during approach what should you do?
If you then chose to continue what should you consider?
- Delay or divert.
- Assess from experience, most favourable runway, use Flap 3 for better climb gradient, use managed speed (G/S mini), add 1/3 mean HWC up to 15kts.
On approach, correct actions for;
- Monitor Radar Display.
- Go Around, Windshear Ahead
- Windshear?
- Manoeuvre to avoid
- Go-around (normal), TOGA must be selected
- Windshear G/A
Following a windshear escape manoeuvre, how do you rebuild?
FD’s off > 15˚ nose up & TOGA > check not in CONF 1+F > “Go-around, Flaps” > unlock Alpha Floor > 10˚ nose up CLB > FD’s on
