Windshear Flashcards

1
Q

What are the unacceptable flight path deviations? (5 +3)

A
\+/- 15kts
\+/- 500fpm
\+/- 5˚pitch
\+/- 1 dot ILS G/S
Unusual power settings
  • Heading variations of > 10˚
  • Ground Speed variations
  • Wind indication variations on the ND

Q

What system provides the Predictive Windshear?
When is it active?
How is it prioritised?

A
  • The Weather Radar provides the PWS.
  • Active when <1500ft. Inhibited on t/o 100kts - 50R, on landing <50R.
  • Prioritised over TCAS and GPWS but overridden by FAC W/S and Stall warnings.

Q

What provides the W/S Detection and Warnings?
When is it active?
What is the warning?

A
  • W/S detection and warnings are provided by the FACs.
  • Active 3s after t/o and <1300R to 50R with at least CONF 1 selected.
  • WINDSHEAR on both PFD’s for 15s and aural WINDSHEAR x3

Q

What are the “Tools for Escape”?

A
  • ALPHA FLOOR; TOGA automatically selected > TOGA LK as AoA decreases > disconnect A/THR top disconnect TOGA LK
  • SRS; minimises height loss
  • High AoA protection; allows selection of full back stick for max lift and minimises drag by retracting flaps.

Q

If there is suspected windshear or a predictive windshear during approach what should you do?

If you then chose to continue what should you consider?

A
  • Delay or divert.
  • Assess from experience, most favourable runway, use Flap 3 for better climb gradient, use managed speed (G/S mini), add 1/3 mean HWC up to 15kts.
