Wind Patterns Flashcards
Doldrums
A spot in the equator where there is no wind.
Trade Winds
Trade winds move to the equator. They also bring cool air to the equator.
El Niño

Convection Current
When solids, gasses, or liquids rise and sink in a looping path and from daily weather patterns.
Jet Stream
A band a very fast wind is caused by differences in temperature. They can be found 10 km above the year. They move west to east in the northern hemisphere.
Coriolis Effect
Rotation of the Earth causes objects in the northern hemisphere the deflect to the right while objects in the southern hemisphere are deflected to the left.
Sea Breeze
It occurs during the day. Wind is pushed from the sea to the land.
Land Breeze

La Niña
Band of cold ocean temperatures that develop off the coast of South America found the Pacific and can cause more precipitation. It also cools down climate
Prevailing Winds
Winds that blow warm air away from the equator.
Polar Easterlies
Found near the poles and move east to west.
Prevailing Westerlies
Winds that blow away from the equator from west to east
Gulf Stream
