The Human Body Flashcards
Digestive System
The digestive system’s job is to move and digest food around your body. It also allows your body to get nutrients and energy you need from food.
Parts of the Digestive System
The parts are: your mouth; your teeth; saliva; your tongue; your esophagus; your stomach; your small intestine; your large intestine
Three Interesting Facts: bolus is mushed up food; the stomach is in the shape of a “J”; the small intestine is about 22 ft long
Circulatory System
The circulatory systems job is to transport blood around your body.
Parts of the Circulatory System
The parts are: the heart; blood vessels and blood
Muscular System
Works with skeletal system and allows movement
Parts of the Muscular System
Muscles
Respiratory System
The respiratory system’s job is to move air to your lungs. It also exchanges gasses between you and the outside.
Parts of the Respiratory System
The parts are: the mouth; the windpipe; the lungs; bronchioles; the lungs; the bronchi; diaphragm
Skeletal System
Protects important organs, provides support and helps you move
Parts of the Skeletal System
Bones
Three Interesting Facts: you can’t move without bones; your bones produce blood cells; bones are made out of calcium
Nervous System
The job is to sends fast messages to your brain and the brain sends a message back to the body part, resulting a movement.
Parts of the Nervous System
The parts are the brain, your nerves, and your spinal cord.
What are some of the major systems of your body?
Respiratory system Circulatory system Nervous system Skeleton system Muscular system Immune system Excretory System Endocrine System
Name the 3 major arm bones and leg bones
Arm bones are
Humerus
Radius
Ulna
Leg bones
Femur
Tibia
Fibula
How many bones are in a human skeleton?
There are 206 bones in your body
Briefly describe how an X-ray works.
An X-ray uses radiation to see through you
What are the four types of bones?
Long bones; short bones; flat bones; irregular bones
TRUE or FALSE
Bones of the skeletal system are stronger than steel: True
Bones make red blood cells: True
The Femur is an irregular bone: False
What are the three types of muscles?
Skeleton Muscle, (close to the bones) Cardiac Muscle (in the heart) and the Smooth Muscle (they appear to be smoother than other muscles)
What are the 6 major blood types? Which one is most common?
A B AB O is the most common (Positive or negative)
How does the Respiratory System enable us to speak?
The vocal cords become tight, squeeze together and force air from the lungs to move between them. The air causes the vocal cords to vibrate and produce sound.
What role do Cilia play in our Respiratory System?
The cilia (hair like structures that are outside of cell lining the bronchus) uses their wave like motions to move the mucus up and away from the lungs and back into the throat. helps to trap and remove toxins, debris protecting the lungs and respiratory system.
What is the most important organ in your body?
The brain
What are the 3 major parts of the brain?
Cerebrum
Cerebellum
Brain stem
In which part of the digestive system does the body absorb most of the nutrients?
»
The walls of the small intestine absorb the digested nutrients into the bloodstream.
What are the two parts of the central nervous system?
The brain and spinal cord
