Q

The Coriolis effect

A

The Coriolis effect is the rotation of the Earth under winds. As the Earth rotates, the winds appear to deflect, moving to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere.

Q

Air is constantly moving in the Earth’s atmosphere, bringing weather to different parts of the Earth. What causes this constant movement of air?

Q

What are the short-term effects of volcano eruptions on the global climate?

A

The dust particles and gas released in the air reflect sunlight, causing the global temperature to go down short term.

13
Q

What are the long-term effects of volcano eruptions on the global climate?

A

The dust particles come down and release CO2, but not enough, so the global climate returns to the same levels as before.

15
Q

How does a hurricane form?

A

Hurricanes form because of warm ocean water, which also creates humidity. This heats up the air around it, causing low air pressure. Then there’s a low air pressure center and high air pressure around it. This causes a full storm cycle to take place.

16
Q

Is the eye of the hurricane calm or disastrous, and what type of air pressure is in the eye?

A

It’s calm and it’s low pressure

17
Q

What’s a stationary front?

A

When a warm front and cold front meet but they can’t move past each other.
