Cells Flashcards
An area of the cell where cell structures are found
Cytoplasm
The control center of the cell that regulates activities and houses genetic material
Nucleus
Transforms energy for the organism to carry out its life functions
Mitochondria
What organelles do plant cells have that animal cells do not?
Cell wall and chloroplast
What is the function of a vacuole?
To store water, food, waste, etc.
Vacuoles are found in both plant and animal cells. Why are vacuoles larger in plant cells than animal cells?
Plants need to store more water
What is the main difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
Prokaryotes don’t have a nucleus and eukaryotes do.
Two examples of eukaryotes:
Animal and plant cells
Two examples of prokaryotes:
Bacteria and Fungi cells
What are the 3 components of the cell theory?
Cells are the basic unit of life. All living things are made of cells. Cells come from preexisting cells.
Are eukaryotes unicellular, or are prokaryotes unicellular?
Prokaryotes are unicellular and eukaryotes can be either unicellular or multicellular.
What’s the function of the cell membrane?
Allows substances in and out of the cell
What’s the function of chloroplasts?
The site of photosynthesis, the process by which plants turn light energy from sunlight into food
What’s the function of the cell wall?
Provides protection and support to plant cells
