What does the WHS act 2011 aim to achieve
It aims to achieve a national and consistent set of framework outlining procedures that must be followed be employees when carrying out work.
4 functions of a health and safety rep
To represent the workers in the working group in matters relating to work health and safety.
To monitor the measures taken by the person conducting business to compliance with the WHS act.
To investigate complaints from members of the work group relating to WHS.
To inquire into anything that appears to be a risk to the health and safety of workers in the work group, arising from the conduct of the business or undertaking.
Outline the functions of a health and safety committee
To facilitate co-operation between the person conducting a business or undertaking and workers in investigating, developing and carrying out measures designed to ensure the workers health and safety at work.
To assist in developing standards, rules and procedures relating to health and safety that are to be followed or complied with at the workplace.
Any other functions prescribed by the regulations or agreed between the person conducting the business or undertaking and the committee.
What is an employers primary duty of care towards the employees
A person conducting business must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable the health and safety of workers and contractors anywhere nd everywhere engaged in activities.
What is an employers primary duty of care to other persons
To ensure as far as is reasonably practicable that the health and safety of other persons is not put at risk from work carried out by workers or contractors.
What are the requirements of workers whilst at work
To take reasonable care of their on health and safety.
To take care that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect or risk the health and safety or another person.
Comply, so far as is reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction that is given to allow ACTF&R to comply with the Act.
What is the reporting mechanism used by ACTF&R for any workplace incident, accident or injury and escribe the general procedure of use
Riskman is the online reporting system for accidents, incidents and near misses.
Person completes report and forwards to SO.
SO completes their part of the report and forwards to relevant Commander for review.
Commander forwards report to F&R HR Commander who will post the report onto the system.
What is a hazard
A hazard is a source of danger.
Anything whish has the potential to cause injury, illness, damage or loss of property.
What is a risk
Risk is the likelihood that a hazard will cause injury or illness to a person or to damage property.
Describe the main use of PPE and an emergency incident
PPE is used to provide protection from hazards.
When should PPE be used as a form of hazards control
PPE should be used when all other hazards controls are unable to completely reduce the rick of a hazard.
FF’s always use PPE as they never know exactly what they’re arriving to.
