What is required when trading medicines other than to a patient?
Wholesaler license (WDA)
Comply w/ good distribution practice standards + pass inspections
Have suitable experienced RP named on licence to ensure med are stored + distributed appropriately
What are the exemptions for having a WDA?
Pharmacies supplying to another pharmacy w/in same legal entity/hospital w/in same trust
Pharmacies/hospitals supplying small quantities to healthcare professionals for treatment/onward supply provided:
- Transaction takes place on occasional basis AND
- Quantity supplied is small AND
- Supply made not on profit basis AND
- Supply not for onward wholesale distribution
What licenses are needed for a company that trade medicines which include CD 2 to 5?
WDA(H)
Home office CD licence
What records must be kept when a POM is supplied from a registered pharmacy to healthcare professional/organisation?
Entry made in POM register OR signed order retained for 2 years from date of supply
Good practice: record POM even if signed order retained
What must the entry in the POM register include when supplying to another healthcare professional/organisation?
Date of supply
Name, quantity, form and strength of POM supplied
Name + address, trade, business or profession of person supplying to
Purpose for which it was sold or supplied
Are there any legal requirements for a signed order?
No – but to a minimum the details required for POM register entry
