What is Exercise Physiology Flashcards
What is physiology? ( what in particular)
The study of bodily functions: tissues, organs, systems
What is the more detailed definition of Exercise Physiology?
study of acute and/or chronic exercise impacting our body
How would you describe exercise?
stress on the body, structure activity, physical
What is physical activity?
any bodily movement: that contracts skeletal muscles that results in a increase over resting energy expenditure
What is the difference between exercise and physical activity?
exercise is structured and with intent (also testing or maintaining), physical activity is not structured and without intent
What are the 5 components of exercise?
physical activity, planned, structured, repeated bodily movement, intent
What are the 5 components of health related fitness?
body composition, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance
What are the specific components of PF?
agility, balance, coordination, power, speed, reaction time
What is the product of mass x acceleration? What is it measured in?
Force
Newtons
What is the product of force x distance?
How is it measured?
Work
Joules
What is the product of Work/Time?
How is it measured?
Power
Watts
What is ATP broken into?
ATP –> ADP + P + energy
Where does energy originate?
Food
What is fat stored as and where ?
What are carbs stored as and where?
What is protein stored as and where?
- Fatty acids (Triglyceride)
- Glucose (stored in liver)
- Amino acids (stored in muscle fiber)
Why are we not always storing ATP?
We would be too heavy, so recycling is more efficient
