Cardiac Physiology Flashcards
What are the 3 components of the cardiovascular system?
the heart, vessel, and blood
What makes up the duel circuit?
Pulmonary (heart and lungs) and systemic (O2 to CO2 with capillaries)
What is the difference between atriums and ventricles?
atrium (thin/ upper chambers and receive blood from veins) and ventricles (thick/lower chambers and pump blood out to arteries)
What do the capillaries do?
Exchange between O2 and CO2
What pathway does the systemic circuit go through?
Oxygenated: heart–>arteries–>arterioles–>capillaries–>venules–>veins
What’s the difference between veins, arteries, venules, and arterioles
veins - carry blood to heart
arteries - carry blood away from heart
venules - receive blood from capillaries
arterioles - maintain pressure and give blood to capillaries
