What is Electricity?
Electricity is the study of the movement of electrons.
What charge does protons have?
Positive
What charge doe an electron have?
Negative
What is the definition of a neutral atom?
Neutral atoms have equal number of protons and electrons.
What is static electricity?
Objects are made up of atoms so Static Electricity (or static charge) happens when:
Charges build up on the surface of an object until they find a way to be released or discharged
Static electricity Doesn’t Flow
How does static happen?
Friction causes a transfer of electrons (Rubbing certain materials against one another)
What is current electricity?
Current electricity is the flow of the electrons from one place to another on a pathway made of a conductor.
What part of the atom can move?
ONLY ELECTRONS move
Protons don’t move
Electrons have a very small mass and are relatively far from the nucleus….easy to steal.
What are is the law of electric charges?
Name 3 lawas
1) Positive charges are attracted to negative charges.
2) Like charges repel
3) Charged (positive or negative) objects are attracted to neutral objects
