Q

In Science what are you observing?

A

In science, we are observing properties and changes in matter.
MATTER:
Remember…matter is anything that
has mass and takes up space (Everything!)

Colour - the colour of a substance
Texture- How the substance feels
Odor- How the substance smells
Lustre - The appearance of the surface of the substance when light shines on it.
Density - The amount of matter per unit volume
Clarity- The ability for light to pass through a substance (transparent, translucent and Opaque)
State of Matter - liquid, solid, gas
Hardness - how easily it can be scratched
Malleability - the ability of a substance to be hammer or bent in to a different direction (malleable - a substance that can be bent/Brittle - a substance will break if bent)
Ductility - The ability of a substance to be drawn in into a wire
Melting Point - the temperature a substance changes state from a solid to a liquid
Boiling Point - the temperature that a substance changes state from liquid to gas
Viscosity - the ability to pour liquid
Solubility - The ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent such as water
Taste - the sensation of flavor perceived in the mouth and on contact with a substance
Mass - how much matter is in a substance measured using a scale
