Practice Questions Flashcards
Describe Cosmic Background Radiation
The CBR is the leftover radiation from the Big Bang. The first energy from the Big Bang was hot, high energy radiation (Gamma radiation). Now, after 13.7 billion years the radiation is reduced to low energy so all that is left is the low energy microwave radiation.
An example is 1% of the static in an old antenna TV is CBR. It is everywhere.
What were the first two elements to form in or universe? How did this happen?
Hydrogen and helium were the first 2 elements to form in the universe. They formed when it was cool enough for the protons, neutrons and electrons to gather into atoms.
Where did atoms come from? How long did it take for them to form>
The Big Bang started as a singularity which is an infinitely dense point and rapidly expanded.
It was very hot and high energy.
After 300,000 years, the universe had cooled enough for atoms to form.
What are the two smallest atoms in the Periodic Table? How are they related to the big bag?
H and He are the 2 smallest atoms on the Periodic Table. They are related to the Big Bang because they were the first atoms formed 300,000 years after the Big Bang when the universe was cool enough for the subatomic particles p, e, n to form into atoms.
