What is a Network? Flashcards
What is a computer network?
Two or more computers that can exchange information over a data link.
Simple put what are networks made of?
End Devices, Infrastructure devices, Cables/Media, and Protocols.
What is an end device?
A device that the user uses to access the network.
What is an infrastructure device?
A device that processes the network traffic. A service device.
What are cables and media used for?
They connect devices wired or wirelessly in order to communicate.
What are protocols?
Rules and communication standards that run in the software that control the traffic from one pc to another, and assists traffic.
What is IP?
Internet Protocol. It allows the routing of traffic between different infrastructure devices and nodes
What is TCP?
Transmission Control Protocol. A protocol that guarantees the traffic got to its destination. It guarantees a service. It makes sure its able to reassemble all of the packets as they get to the other side.
What is HTTP?
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is a protocol that establishes communication with websites.
How does a basic computer network operate out into another network?
An end user is connected to a switch (which hosts the LAN) and the switch is connected to a router (which routers the information between networks) and a router is connected to a firewall (which is the middleman between our network and other networks. It provides extra security.) And the Firewall is directly connect to other networks (WANs, the internet, etc.)
