Ghana
Second West African empire. It was famous for its role in the Trans-Saharan gold and salt trade. Mansa Musa was on of their greatest leaders.
Mali
Third great West African empire and became larger and richer than Ghana and Mali. Took its place as the powerhouse in West Africa.
Songhai
Powerful and wealthy ruler of the Mali Empire in the 14th century, known for his famous pilgrimage to Mecca and his contributions to the empire’s wealth and Islamic culture.
