Welding Safety Flashcards
Welding and cutting general rules
- Approved gloves
- Welding goggles or hood with appropriate shade lens shall be worn by welders, helpers and observers. Safety glasses for chipping slag.
- Shall not weld or cut in area with combustible gases, vapors or dust until precautions to prevent fire or explosion.
- Piping, empty containers shall not be welded or cut until vented and purged of gases
Welding and cutting general Practices
A. Low cut shoes with unprotected tops shouldn’t be worn.
B. Clothing free of oil and grease, flame resistant clothing as necessary.
C. Shields or barriers used to protect others from the rays from the arc or welding flames.
D. Don’t place material directly on concrete floor when welding or cutting.
E. Cool hot material and mark before leaving unguarded
F. Adequate ventilation or respirator when welding in confined spaces or any metal that produces toxic fumes
G. Take precautions when welding or cutting in elevated positions so hot metal doesn’t fall on people or into combustible materials or damaging equipment. If combustible can’t be removed use fire resistant material to protect and keep a fire extinguisher close by.
H. Butane cigarette lighters should never be possessed.
Arc welding rules
Welding machine frame must be grounded
Arc welding practice
Inspect welding machine, cables, holders, and ground for safe working condition.
Gas Welding rules
- Don’t repair or alter cylinder valves. Pressure gauges and regulators must not be substituted on cylinders with different gases.
- Never use grease or oil around oxygen.
- Never use a leaking welding hose or coupling.
Gas welding practices
A. Special precautions must be observed when handling and storing compressed gases.
B. An approved lighter should light the torch
C. Close valves and release pressure from regulator when not in use.
D. Check equipment and correct defects prior to use. Special attention should be given to hoses, valves, regulators, fittings, gauges, torches, fusible plugs,
E. Don’t store torches in toolbox when connected to the cylinders.
F. Keep gas cylinders vertical and secure to prevent fall.
G. Acetylene cylinders are never placed horizontally.
