Also called a machine reamer taper shank. Designed for machine operation
Chucking reamer
Both straight and tapered shanks, similar to jobbers but with shorter flutes. Straight or spiral flutes
Rose chucking reamer
Cuts at the end, flutes provide chip clearance and act as a guide. Best used when considerable metal needs to be removed and finish isn’t critical.
Shell reamer
Mounted on a special arbor
Expansion chucking reamer
Straight flutes with a straight or tapered shank. Slots cut into body for expanding when adjusting screw is tightened
Regular Expansion reamer disadvantages
Slots reduce tool rigidness
Diminished accuracy and finish
Reduced cutting edge clearance.
Solid expansion reamer advantages
More rigidness and accuracy
Uniform expansion
Clearance Automatically provided
