What was the impact of the TOV on German politics?
It was a main campaigning point for politicians, Germans felt the govt were traitors they could have won the war if the govt didn’t act cowardly.
Why was the govt opposed?
They were opposed from both left and right wing groups for:
- Involvement with TOV
- Liberalism and democratic principles
- weak govt
- failure to unite Germany
what opposition events did the govt face?
- Spartacists revolt
- ex soldiers made private armies with political parties.
What was the Kapp Putsch 1920?
It was an attempt to overthrow the govt, by Wolfgang Kapp + friekorp leader- Luttwitz + Erhardt, they tried to establish a new govt- took over Berlin- it fell in 4 days, Wiemar returned and Kapp was imprisoned and died
What was the Munich Putsch 1922?
There was a meeting with important officials in Berlin, Hitler crashed the meeting and told them that the national govt was deposed and that Ludendorff was forming a new govt, Hitler locked them in, the prisoners escaped and gained resistance to the putsch. Nazis Berlin march failed and were caught by police. Putsch failed but Hitler gained fame.
Lopsided control?
Govt relied on army for extremist threats, left wing were dealt with more harshly than the right wing which made them more confident.
Did the Wiemar constitution gain a lot of support
Although they faced a lot of problems, back in 1919, it was see as the most advanced systems in the world. Support was shown by the amount of people who voted in every election. People supported it when presented with something they disliked.
