What was the impact of WW2 on Women?

A

After 1945, there was a surplus of women. in 1948, there were 7.3m women more, divorce rates were very high. Due to less men, women had to work

What did the govt do for women?

A

Ministry for family affairs was set up in 1953 to give mothers and wives financial benefits. Govt did little to make work look attractive for women. Adenauer spoke about equality for women.

A

in 1977 the marriage and family law was revised to give women equal rights in marriage. The civil code law was also overturned so single women could work and not if they were just married. but some still stuck to tradition

what was the impact of the the Economic Boom of 1950-60 on workers/ foreigners?

A

The boom created a need form more workers, 1955- full employment and govt wanted more workers from abroad, Unions hated the idea as foreigners would drive wages down, so priority was still given to Germans

A

known as guest workers- temporary, didn’t have the same rights as germans, they had a yearly contract, unions helped them work but not settle in

A

increased hostility towards them, landlord refused to take them in, they were forced to live in the poorest areas
