progressive chronic condition. abnormal/excessive fat accumulation impairing health

type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, arthritis, cancer
what is overweight?
total body weight above recommended range for good health
how is obesity determined?
thru BMI (body mass index). weight in comparison to height. can also be measured thru skinfold and circumference measurements
what is the fat that is most common in the body?
subcutaneous fat, making up 80% of body’s fat
what are the health risks of obesity?
unhealthy cholesterol/triglyceride levels, impaired heart functions, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, etc
what are the factors contributing to excess body fat?
genetics, physiological (metabolism, hormones, fat cells), lifestyle (eating, physical activity, obesogenic environment, psychological (stress-eating)
