Week_11_Regression Flashcards
product moment correlation other names
Pearson correlation coefficient. It is also referred to as simple correlation, bivariate correlation, or merely the correlation coefficient.
The r value is close to 1 indicating that respondentsβ duration of residence in the city is strongly associated with their attitude towards the city. The positive sign of r implies a positive relationship
True
Test Statistic for correlation
π‘=π((π β2)/(1-r^2) )^1/2, then see if t >/< T-critical (0.05 degree of freedom)
partial correlation coefficient
measures the association between two variables after controlling for, or adjusting for, the effects of one or more additional variables.
Correlation focuses on summarizing the degree and the direction of the association between variables as a single number. The purpose of regression is to generate a mathematical function or equation linking those variables.
The researcher has to designate the Independent variable (x) and dependent variable (y).
In regression analysis only the dependent variable is random, independent variable is fixed
Y = dependent or criterion variable X = independent or predictor variable
y=ax+b
a=y-bar - b*x-bar
