What is intelligence?
is an individual’s ability to adapt to the world
what is crystallized intelligence?
intellectual ability that reflects accumulated knowledge acquired through experiences and learning
what is fluid intelligence?
an intellectual ability that reflects basic information processing skills which includes working memory, processing speed, and the ability to detect relations among stimuli and draw inferences
why was IQ test developed?
It was developed to measure the intelligence of french students. They scored very low on their education therefore wanted to see how they could aid them.
what is the Flynn effect?
when an individual will likely attain a higher IQ score on earlier versions of a test than the current version
what is information processing?
this approaches argues that people who processes information at a faster pace should also acquire knowledge and adapt to the world with ease
what is neurological approach?
this approach believes that the brain development is the fundamental influence on all cognitive abilities including intelligence
what is the triarchic theory of intelligence?
this theory believes that intelligence is broken into 3 categories which are analytical, creative, and applied
What is multiple intelligence theory?
this theory believes that humans intelligence is a wide variety of set abilities: musical, spatial, naturalistic, interperson etc.
what are 3 things that can influence intelligence?
Genetic: inherited genetics traits that can influences a persons IQ
Contextual factors: the environmental and social conditions that influences IQ.
Culture: the shared belief, values, customs, and practices of a particular group of people. This can shape IQ as different cultures place different levels of emphasis on cognitive skills like memory, reasoning, and problem-solving
what is giftedness?
giftedness is when an individual scores 130 or higher on the IQ test. This indicates that the person has above average abilities and creativity is an essential component of giftedness.
what is intellectual disability?
(general) this is a deficits in cognitive functioning and age-appropriate behavior: social communication and self-care which occurs before the age of 18.
Can be caused by genetics or environmental/social factos
Requires supportive and engaging environment/ diagnosis
what is learning disability?
(specific) a diagnosis for a child who demonstates great difficulties in aspects of learning such as reading or mathematics, and shoes achievement behind that expected given the childs IQ
They have normal intelligence and sensory function despite having difficulties with academic achievements
