Week of CAP 2 (SV, HR, Q) Flashcards
1
Q
What is Venous return?
A
The volume of blood that returns to the heart
2
Q
What is ejection fraction?
A
The percentage of blood pumped out by the left ventricle
3
Q
What is the elasticity of cardiac fibres?
A
How far the muscles of the heart stretch
4
Q
What is cardiac output?
A
The amount of blood the heart pumps out per minute
5
Q
What is stroke volume?
A
The volume of blood pumped per contraction
6
Q
What is heart rate?
A
How many times the heart beats per minute
7
Q
What is the equation for cardiac output?
A
Cardiac = Stroke × Heart
Output Volume Rate
8
Q
What is Starling’s law?
A
- Increased venous return allows for greater diastolic filling of the heart
- This means the cardiac muscle is stretched further which increases ejection fraction
- Therefore there is a higher stroke volume
9
Q
What is ejection fraction?
A
The percentage of the blood pumped out of the left ventricle
