What is the Cardiac Cycle
Everything that happens in the heart within 2 heartbeats
What are the 2 phases of the cardiac cycle?
Systole and Diastole
What is systole?
When the heart chambers contract and blood is pushed out of them
What is diastole?
When the heart is relaxing and the chambers are filling with blood
If heart rate is 60bpm, how many cardiac cycles occur per second?
1
How long do the two phases occur (in 1 second)
Systole = 0.3s
Diastole = 0.7s
What contracts during systole?
Atria then ventricles
During exercise, what happens to the time of diastole?
Slightly decreases
What is systolic pressure?
Ejection of the blood by ventricles contracting
