Monitoring Week 1: Cardiovascular System Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 valves of the heart?
A
- Tricuspid valve (right side)
- Bicuspid valve (left side)
- Semi-lunar valves (between the right and left ventricles + the pulmonary artery and aorta)
2
Q
What are the 4 blood vessels?
A
- Vena Cava (takes in deoxygenated blood to right atrium
- Pulmonary Vein (delivers deoxygenated blood to the left atrium)
- Pulmonary artery (takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs)
- Aorta (takes oxygenated blood to the body)
3
Q
What is the Cardiac Conduction System?
A
A group of cells in the wall of the heart that are responsible for the impulses that contract the heart
4
Q
What are the 3 receptors?
A
- Chemoreceptors (detect chemical changes)
- Baroreceptors (detect changes in blood pressure)
- Proprioceptors (provide information about movement and body position)
5
Q
What are the 3 nervous systems?
A
- Central Nervous System
- Sympathetic Nervous System (stimulates heart to beat faster)
- Parasympathetic Nervous System (resets heart back to rest)
6
Q
What is meant by the heart being myogenic?
A
The heart can create its own impulses
7
Q
What coordinates the CNS and the Peripheral Nervous System?
A
The cardiac control system in the medulla oblongata
8
Q
What is the order of the Cardiac Comduction System?
A
- Electrical impulses generates in the sinoatrial node
- The electrical impulse travels through the atria causing them to contract and pass blood
- The atrioventricular node delays the impulse for 0.1s to allow all blood to be passed
- The impulse travels down the bundle of HIS in the septum
- The impulses reach the purkinje fibres around the ventricles, causing them to contract
