standing order?
preauthorized medical directive that is specifically defines circumstances for various sue of the drug
Medical directive?
may need a patch to use ( Mandatory patch points)
Direct orders?
orders directly from a physician ( patch) to only be used in specific situations. Must be documented in the remarks section.
Delegation?
the transfer of authority to perform a controlled act to a person who cant do it otherwise. must be regulated under RHPA ( registered healtcare professional act.
Controlled act?
acts that can only be performed or delegated by a registered healthcare professional.
what is an example of a controlled act in paramedicine?
Blood glucose sampling
Protocols?
broader than a standing order. medical directives can have protocols, they have the integrity of a standing order

when are directive updated? who reviews them?

controlled acts to be done by medics
Auxiliary directives
optional directives introduced to the standards after review from BHP and certified paramedic service.
special event medical directives?
for large scale events were local systems are exhausted.
if a controlled act has been started for a pt you do not have to transpot them ( t/f)?
false, you must transport the pt to the hospital
If you treat a pt and they do not want to transport what has to be considered before departing?
if the pt meet treat and release directives and if they meet the aid to capacity…
if the BHP can not be reached for a mandatory patch point what should be done?
- make all possible efforts to contact bhp
- document each attempt
- render the tx if its in your best judegment if they are critically ill and the tx is potentially life saving
- see if the pt meets the directive parameters
