Morton’s Neuroma?
Nerve sheath irritation and fibrosis b/w 3rd/ 4th MT heads
MOI = fallen MT arch, narrow toe-box, sports requiring
Morton’s Neuroma treatment?
Tear drop pad
Change shoes
Bone scan to rule out stress #
Surgery
Morton’s Neuroma Prevention?
Proper footwear/ orthodics w/ MT arch support
Cross training to avoid excessive weight bearing on balls of feet
Bunions (Hallux Valgus)?
MOI = forefoot virus puts pressure on 1st MT head
Small toe box, high heels
S&S
- great toe angled toward second toe
- Swelling of 1st MTP joint
- Redness on medial side, callus
Treatment
- better shoes
orthodic
- doughnut pad
- Taping or toe wedge
- Bunionectomy (surgery) - 2 month recovery - very painful
Prevention
- Good shoes
- Correct biomechanical risk factors
Exercise Rehab
Restoring full ROM for foot/ ankle?
joint mobilization for toes and ankles
calf stretches
Flexibility –> many conditions can be addressed through calf flexibility
Restore msc strength, endurance, power?
Towel crunches, toe extensions, grip/ spread toes, toe raises
Theraband for ankles
eccentric training
Reastablish neuromsc control and balance
Balancing
Bare foot
hopping
Injury Prevention
Appropriate footwear
Orthotics
Taping/ pads
