Week 9 - CVD antiplatelet Flashcards
Understand and discuss the pharmacological rational of antiplatelet drugs
Describe what haemostasis is?
The stopping of blood loss caused by damaged blood vessels
Define thrombosis and describe the stages of atherosclerosis
Thrombosis - pathological formation of a clot in the vasculature without the presence of bleeding
Atherosclerosis-
First stage - Biuld of a fatty streak made up of ( LDL) cholestrol in inner lining whilst monocytes and leukocytes migrate to endithelial layer and adhere to it along side with pro inflammatory chemokines on the endo cell surface. —–> Biuld up of LDL leads to cell oxidation
Second Stage - Endothelial cell activation - T cells and monocytes accumulate which then differentiate into macrophages which then
T cell and macrophages are activated and accumulate and smooth muscle cells migrate to the area
