  • When taking patient off then a reducing dose course must be completed
  • dependence can biuld
  • prolongwd use can lead to increased risk of CVD oesteoarthiritis , diabetes & weight gain

Why should bone health be monitored along side IBD ?and which patients groups should be monitored ?and what shld they be given ?

A
  • IBD patient have an increased of developing oesteoarthiritis
  • RIsk factors- uncontrolled inflammation , malabsorption , weight loss
  • Patients on corticosteroids -
  • 800mg-1000mg calcium
  • 800 IU vitamin D daily

If patient is high risk - bisphosphates ( alendronate, risedronate)
