Benzodiazepine
For: Premed for cardioversion and intubation
Sedation

1-2.5 mg IV/IM
Max of .1 mg/kg
What are the contraindications of midazolam?
Comatose state
Hypotension
What are the side effects of midazolam?
Respiratory depression
Hypotension
What are the special notes of midazolam?
Effects reversed by romazicon
What is calcium gluconate?
Electrolyte
What is calcium gluconate for?
Hyperkalemia
Cardiac arrest in a dialysis patient

1g over 2 minutes slow IV push
What are the contraindications of calcium gluconate?
Patients on digitalis

Precipitates sodium bicarbonate

Adsorbent
For oral drug or toxin overdoses
What is the dose of activated charcoal?
1-2 g/kg in 8 oz of water
What are the contraindications of activated charcoal?
Corrosive, caustic, or petroleum distillates
Active vomiting
What are the side effects of activated charcoal?
Nausea
Constipation
Diarrhea
