What are the advantages?
Increased stability
Easier mobility
Disadvantages?
Bulky
Wide base
Inability to ambulate on uneven terrains
Less efficient then RGO
What does it develop?
Weight bearing capabilities
Weight shifting capabilities
What is the purpose of the walking parapodium?
Provides mobility and independence
What is the required gait?
Ability to lean from side to side
Pull hand grips with arms
What are the parapodium indications
Lower extremity paralysis
CP
SB
What are the contraindications for parapodium?
Quads
Upper extremity involvement
Cannot walk with walker or crutches
What are the parapodium advantages?
Safe/comfortable standing
Prevent bed sores
reduce muscle spasms
Prevent disintegration of bone
What are the parapodium disadvantages?
Higher energy expenditure
Requires flat surface
