Week 8 - Muscle attachments of the shoulder Flashcards
What are the proximal attachments of the deltoid?
Anterior: lateral 3rd of clavicle
Middle: acromion
Posterior: spine of scapula
What is the distal attachment of the deltoid?
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
What is the innervation of the deltoid?
Axillary nerve (C5,6)
What is the muscle action of the deltoid?
Anterior: flexes and medially rotates arm
Middle: abducts arm
Posterior: extends nad laterally rotates arm
Shoulder abduction: after first 15° of movement, 1st 15° initiated by supraspinatus
What is the proximal attachment of the supraspinatus?
Supraspinous fossa of scapula
What is the distal attachment of the supraspinatus?
Superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
What is the innervation of the supraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C4, C5, C6)
What is the muscle action of the supraspinatus?
Initiates and assists deltoid in abduction of arm, acts with rotator cuff muscles.
What is the proximal attachment of the infraspinatus?
Infraspinous fossa of scapula
What is the distal attachment of the infraspinatus?
Middle facet of greater tubercle of humerus
What is the innervation of the infraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C5, C6)
What is the muscle attachment of the infraspinatus?
Laterally rotates arm, acts with rotator cuff muscles
What is the proximal attachment of the teres minor?
Middle part of lateral border of scapula
What is the distal attachment of the teres minor?
Inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
What is the innervation of the teres minor?
Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
