Define violence?
the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person or against a community or group, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, physiological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation.
What is the health sector workplace?
any health care facility, whatever the size, location and types of services provided, including major referral hospitals of large cities, regional and district hospitals, health care centres, clinics, community health posts etc.
What Constitutes Bullying?
a person’s perception of repeated negative acts
such as harassment, intimidation, exclusion, isolation, hostility, character assignation, and constant criticism
What is verbal abuse?
a person’s perception of being professionally and personally attacked, devalued or humiliated via the spoken word
what defines a threat?
a persons perception of an intention to inflict personal pain, harm, damage, disadvantage, or psychological harm
What constitutes physical abuse?
perception of an unwelcome or uninvited action that involves physical contact with a person with the intent of causing physiological, emotional and bodily harm.
What constitutes sexual harassment?
persons perception of sexual propositioning or unwelcome sexual attention

What are the key reasons people don’t report workplace violence?
- fear of jeapordising future employment prospects
- fear of making things worse
- the disparity in perceived status eg student v boss
- belief the complaint won’t be taken seriously
- past history or the organisation
