Week 8 Flashcards
What is the dodo effect?
the outcomes of all the different treatments (CBT, psychodynamic, etc) are mearly the same. Because they all have overlapping components.
What do etiologies and risk factorsmean in transdiagnostic sence?
risk factors: similar factors can cause different disorders
etiologies: different disorders stem from the same factor.
describe the dual representation theory of PTSD
two different memory sources:
VAM: verbally accesible memory (hippocampus)
SAM: situational accessible memory (amygdala)
these to systems communicate: If you develop PTSD the traumatic experiences are stored in the SAM.
SAM memory parts get way more active and stay active longer than VAM. This can explain core components of ptsd like re-experiencing.
What is narrative exposure therapy?
used for PTSD exposure, based on the dual represenation theory (SAM and VAM)
With the guidance of the therapist, a patient establishes a chronological narrative of his or her life, concentrating mainly on their traumatic experiences, but also incorporating some positive events. It is believed that this contextualizes the network of cognitive, affective and sensory memories of a patient’s trauma.
