week 7: mammography Flashcards
whats difference between benign and malignant tumour
benign is spread or diffused calsifications/ well defined
malignant is clustered ill defined calsificiations
what type of tissue can most get cancer
fat=good
dense=bad
how should MLO angle differ
large tit=small angle of toasted sandwich (40˚)
small tit= large angle (60˚)
what view do we use for small tits
an inverted CC.
not ideal as poor image quality
what is magnified view good for
good to detect microcalsification
what does clevage view show
shows posterior medial aspect of both tits
what does cleopatra view show
shows outer quadrant (if it is missed in a CC view)
what scale in AUS is used for density of boobs
PGMI
why do we compress the tit?
reduces overlap of tissue
compression allows for less dose
uniform tissue density
stops movement
what do we do if tit implant
use eklund technique
push implant backward
what is ductography
inject contrast into tit, shows the ducts under mammo
advantage of tomo
helps characterise classifications
reduce patient anxiety
reduce superimposition
increase rate of detection
