week 3: liver + billary system imaging Flashcards
what type of contrast is used for imaging biliary system?
5-30ml
strong concentration- require high radio opacification
What is PTC?
Percutaneous transhapatic cholangiography
- To show bile duct stones
- CM injected directly into bile duct
- Uses fluro and catheters
- Used if ERCP unsuccessful
What is ERCP?
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
Uses endoscope under fluro control
shows bile duct and pancreas
endoscope enters biliary tree via spinchter of odi via duodenum.
Why do we do ERCP
has both diagnostic and therapeutic functions
diagnosis of stones
removal of stones (using wire baskets)
placement of stent over bile duct
what is laparoscopic cholecystecomy
key hole surgery to remove stones
difference between II and flat panel
II uses circular screen + is brighter
Flat panel has rectangular boundary + lower dose
What are indications for PTC
done if ERCP not possible
jaundice
stones
also for treatment of jaundice (place drainage catheter)
What is perioperative cholangiography
removal of stones in theatre
What is
cholangiography
imaging of BILE DUCTS
Choledochorgaphy
imaging of COMMON bile DUCT
cholecystography
imaging of gall bladder
cholangiopancreatography
imaging of bile duct + pancreas
