Week 5: interventional radiography Flashcards
what are examples of non vascular interventional radiography
biposie pain injections (spinal roots)
what are examples of vascular interventional radiography
endovascular angiogram:
- embolisation (close down structure) e.g coils, onyx
- angioplasty (open/restore flow) e.g balloons
- Stenting
what is contrast induced nepropathy
Caused by medullary renal ischaemia and direct tubular toxicity.
creatine serum levels 6-1.2mg
how is the GI tract treated for embolisation
upper tract= endoscopy
lower= angiographic techniques.
what are some indications for SVC stenting
SCV sydrome
compression from lobes
indications for upper arm stenting
- AV fistula
- Stenosis
- DVT (pagets-schrotter)
^ first rib removed for access of subclavian / axillary
What is an IVC filter
aka IVC umbrella.
works to prevent migration of blood clot into IVC/heart
inserted at right common femoral vein. removed at right jugular vein
Who uses an IVC filter
patients with recurring DVT despite anti-coagulation treatment
Examples of international fluro procedures
pic line, infusapots, hickmans line, (allow faster access to venous flow)
inserted using US to identify artery, and then fluro to check location of line
What is pic line
peripherally inserted central catheter
allows quick injections of antibiotics/chemo agents
(Hickmans/permcath/infusaport different as it is inserted in jugular via tunnel injections)
what is vertebroplasty
percutaneous insertion of cement into vertebral body
