Week 7 [Contributions of Cognitive Neuroscience] Flashcards
learn
Plasticity
The brain’s ability to reorganize and adapt by forming new neural connections in response to experience or injury.
Affective Neuroscience
The study of the neural mechanisms underlying emotions and affective behaviors.
Mirror Neurons
Neurons that fire both when an individual performs an action and when they observe someone else performing the same action, thought to be involved in empathy and learning by imitation.
Functional Networks
Networks of brain regions that work together to perform specific cognitive or emotional tasks.
Default-Mode Network
A network of brain regions that are typically active when an individual is at rest and not focused on the external environment, thought to be involved in mind-wandering and self-reflection.
Consciousness
The state of being aware of and able to think about one’s own existence, thoughts, and surroundings.
Hemi-spatial Neglect
A condition where individuals fail to attend to one side of their environment, often due to damage to the right hemisphere of the brain.
Transdiagnostic
Research or approaches that look at factors that apply across different mental health conditions, rather than focusing on specific diagnoses.
Multimodal
Involving multiple methods or types of data, such as combining brain imaging, behavioral data, and physiological measurements.
