week 7 Flashcards
Why is it important to obtain vital signs from a
patient?
indicate an individual
is alive, such as heart-beat, breathing rate,
temperature, blood pressures and recently oxygen
saturation
What is a normal temperature?
37
What is the difference between surface and core
temperature?
Surface Temperature
* Temperature of the skin
Core Temperature
* Temperature of the deep tissues of the body
What is the pulse rate for tachycardia and
bradycardia?
Tachycardia
* The pulse is faster than 100 beats per minute.
Bradycardia
* The pulse is slower than 60 beats per minute
What is a pulse deficit?
- Pulse deficit: difference between the radial and apical rates; signifies that the pumping
action of the heart is faulty
Where is the apical pulse found?
Apical pulse represents the actual beating of the heart
Apical pulse rate - radial pulse rate = pulse deficit
What can increase respiratory rates?
fever, illness, exercise, anxiety
. What is a normal blood pressure?
systolic: less than 120
diastolic less than 80
What things can affect the blood pressure
measurement?
Cardiovascular disorders
* Neurological conditions
* Kidney disorders
Psychological factors
such as stress, anger,
or fear
What is orthostatic hypotension?
is a form of
low blood pressure that happens when standing
after sitting or lying down.
What is a normal blood oxygen saturation level?
95-100%
How is blood oxygen saturation measured?
A pulse oximeter
