Q

Mass spectrum

A

Data recorded as a mass spectrum which is a graph of the relative mass of isotopes.
Calibrated on the ^12C scale
plotted against the percentage abundance

Q

Information obtained from the mass spectrum

A
  1. mass of each isotope (RIM- x axis)
  2. percentage abundance of each isotope (y axis)
  3. number of isotopes (number of peaks)
  4. average relative masses for the elements (RAM can be calculated from mass spectra)
