Week 6 Flashcards
whats a synovial joint?
a synovial joint is the most common type of joint in the body. it allows for wide range of motion.
what is the articular capsule?
it has the synovial membrane and the fibrous layer.
fibrous layer: outer layer.
synovial membrane: inner layer producing synovial fluid lubricating the joint and reduces friction.
synovial cavity?
fluid filled space in which the articulating surfaces of the bones contact each other.
articular cartilage?
thin layer of cartilage covering epiphysis. reducing friction and shock absorber
ligament?
strong bands of connective tissue that hold the bones at a moveable joint together
synovial fluid?
thick lubricating fluid that fills the interior of the joint cavity.
menisci?
fibrocartilage structure found between the bones of some synovial joints. provides padding or smooths movements between the bones
whats a hinge joint?
elbow joint knee joint
ball and socket joint?
shoulder joint and hip joint
pivot joint?
atlantoaxial joint or radioulnar joint
what is antagonistic muscle pair?
when one muscle contracts the other muscle relaxes.
- when flexing arm, the bicep brachii contracts to flex the elbow and the tricep brachii relaxes to allow the movement but when extending the arm the tricep brachii contract and the bicep brachii relaxes
extension of the leg at the knee joint?
rectus femoris
flexion of the leg at the knee joint?
biceps femoris
Extension of the thigh at the hip joint
vastus medialis
Flexion of the cervical portion of the vertebral column
sternocleidomastoid
