Stabilization

imagining that the trauma happened to someone else; removing yourself mentally from the situation
dissociative symptoms
keep track of reality and desensitize triggers – way to bring the client back into the present moment using the senses
grounding
goal is to be able to live in the present and not be stuck in the past
integration of traumatic memories
associate traumatic memory with REM of sleep, create situation that while threatening when lived, now that the client is in the present moment, is less threatening
EMDR - eye movement desensitization and reprocessing
