Week 5: Elbow Function and Muscle Recruitment Flashcards
What is a spurt muscle?
a muscle with an insertion close to the joint moving and an origin far away
What is a shunt muscle?
a muscle with an origin close to the joint moving and an insertion far away
What are the superficial muscles that flex the forearm and wrist?
pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor carpi ulnaris
What is the common attachment of the superficial muscles that flex the forearm and wrist?
medial epicodyle (weak elbow flexors)
What are the deep muscle that flex the forearm and wrist?
flexor digitorum profundus, flexor pollis longus, pronator quadratus
What are the superficial muscles that extend the forearm and wrist?
extensor carpi radlialis brevis, extensor digitorum, extensor digiti minimi, extensor carpi ulnaris
What is the common attachment for the superficial muscles that extend the forearm and wrist? (except for extensor carpi radialis)
lateral epicondyle
What are the deep muscles that extend the forearm and wrist?
supinator, abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus, extensor indicis
Where are the flexors of the forearm and wrist located?
anterior side (palmar)
Where are the extensors of the forearm and wrist located?
posterior side (dorsal)
