Week 11: Blood Vessels of the Upper Limb Flashcards
Name the branches of the arch of aorta
brachiocephalic trunk (right subclavian artery and right common carotid artery), left common carotid artery, left subclavian artery
Which vessels are a part of the arterial supply to the upper limb?
subclavian artery, axillary artery, brachial artery
What are the arteries found in the upper limbs?
brachial artery (anterior arm), profunda brachii (posterior arm), ulnar artery (medial forearm), radial artery (lateral forearm)
What are the arteries of the hand?
ulnar artery, radial artery, deep palmar arch (structures of palm), superficial palmar arch (structures of fingers)
What are the two sets of veins?
deep and superficial
What are the features of deep veins?
run beside and take name of arteries they run beside, have the same course of arteries (distal to axillary vein), contain valves
What are the features if superficial veins?
contain valves (less than deep veins), communicate with deep veins
What is the significance of having 2 sets of veins?
2 routes to return blood to the heart, mechanism for temperature control
What are the superficial veins of the upper limb?
axillary vein, brachial veins, cephalic vein (most lateral), basilic vein (most medial), medial cubital vein
What are the deep veins of the upper limb?
radial and ulnar veins
What structures return blood to the superior vena cava?
axillary vein, subclavian vein, left and right brachiocephalic vein
